Workspaces

Workspaces are containers for organizing related projects, enabling focused collaboration and access control.

What is a Workspace?

A Workspace in Fairlx is a container that groups related projects together. Think of it as a department, team, or product area within your organization.

Workspaces provide:

  • Project Organization — Group related projects logically
  • Team Scoping — Invite specific team members to specific workspaces
  • Access Control — Set permissions at the workspace level
  • Resource Isolation — Keep work separated between teams

Workspace vs Project

Understanding the difference between Workspaces and Projects is key to organizing your work effectively:

Workspace

  • • Container for multiple projects
  • • Team-level organization
  • • Shared settings and members
  • • Example: "Engineering Team"

Project

  • • Contains work items and tasks
  • • Product or initiative focused
  • • Has sprints, boards, backlogs
  • • Example: "Mobile App v2.0"
Tip
A good rule of thumb: create a Workspace for each team or department, and create Projects for each product, initiative, or major deliverable.

Creating a Workspace

To create a new Workspace:

  1. Navigate to your dashboard
  2. Click "New Workspace" in the sidebar
  3. Enter a name and optional description
  4. Choose an icon or emoji (optional)
  5. Click "Create Workspace"
Note
In Personal accounts, you start with one workspace. Organization accounts can create unlimited workspaces.

Workspace Members

Workspace membership is separate from organization membership:

  • Organization members don't automatically have access to all workspaces
  • Workspace admins can invite organization members to their workspace
  • Members can have different roles in different workspaces

Available workspace roles:

  • Admin — Full control over workspace settings and members
  • Member — Can create and manage projects and work items
  • Viewer — Read-only access to workspace content

Settings & Configuration

Workspace settings allow you to customize:

  • General — Name, description, and icon
  • Members — Manage who has access
  • Defaults — Default project settings for new projects
  • Integrations — Connect external tools (GitHub, Slack, etc.)
  • Danger Zone — Archive or delete the workspace
Warning
Deleting a workspace will permanently remove all projects and work items within it. This action cannot be undone.
